The 3TL+V+3T configuration at 6.2mm total thickness changes this completely. It delivers vacuum insulation performance — U=0.58 W/m²K, sound reduction over 40dB, and no-condensation performance to −70°C — in a profile that fits the glazing rebate of virtually any pre-1946 Canadian sash window frame without structural modification, heritage board objection, or loss of original appearance.

Segment 02 — Net-Zero / Passive House Builders

Step Code 5 compliance without the weight of triple glazing.

Ontario Step Code Phase 5 requires window assemblies below 0.45 W/m²K. Triple IGU reaches this threshold — but at 32–44mm total thickness, 28 kg/m², and a frame-depth requirement that demands structural accommodation throughout the building. For net-zero builders and Passive House designers, triple glazing is not so much a solution as a constraint that propagates cost and complexity through the entire building system.

The 4TL+V+4T configuration at U=0.40 W/m²K — independently confirmed by TÜV Rheinland (Report CN25TTIK, September 2025) — is the only single glazing unit that clears the 0.45 threshold while remaining at 8.2mm total and 20 kg/m². It requires no deeper frames than conventional double IGU, no additional structural accommodation, and no weight penalty to the window system. Commercial building projects and institutional retrofits that want to specify vacuum insulated glass face a sourcing challenge: the technology is proven internationally, but there is no Canadian manufacturer and historically no Canadian entity prepared to attend design team meetings, provide NRC-compliant specification data, coordinate delivery into a project schedule, and handle warranty matters locally after installation.
